Paris Comes to Ventura
"A Night at the Moulin Rouge" will feature live jazz, dancing and cabaret performances as the artwork of the 12 “local masters” is auctioned off to benefit the Ventura Music Festival at their annual dinner auction, March 31st.

Impressions – Paris in the 1800’s. The cultural capital of the world. A hot bed of legendary art, writing, and music. This year the Ventura Music Festival’s 2007 theme is Impressions – A Celebration of French Music and Art.

Twelve local artists were chosen and commissioned to create works from their interpretation of this elegant era and 2007 Festival theme. On March 31, The Ventura Music Festival will host an exciting Live auction featuring the commissioned Festival works from the 12 local artists/masters. The auction of Festival Artworks will provide a lifetime opportunity for guests to bid on and win one or more of the highly collectible one-of-a-kind pieces created using photography, sculpture, drawing and painting.

The artist’s highly personal interpretations of the French era, when visual arts of the time captured emotional moments and spawned a revolution in Impressionist painters such as Monet, Renoir, Pissaro, Cezanne and Degas, have attributed to the expression of these modern day works and compliment the Festival’s theme.

Did the 12 local artists/masters bring alive Impressionism in 2007? The traveling exhibit has its final showing prior to the art auction at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza from March 7 – 29. An artist reception is scheduled for March 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Founders Room. Call the Festival offices for additional information.

This year’s local artists are: Whitney Abbott, Paul Benavidez, Anna Rios Bermudez, Michele Chapin, Hilda Kilpatrick, Gerd Koch, Elana Kundell, Dan LaVigne, Leslie McQuaide, Bob Moskowitz, Len Poteshman and David Rivas.
