Ventura
Music Festival artists preparing unique visual art pieces
meant to stir the soul and capture a moment in time through
color, texture
When French composer
Debussy changed the manner in which harmony and composition
was heard – French Impressionism was born. Twelve
local artists are currently at work on their interpretations
of that era through their works of art sponsored by Affinity
Bank and the 2007 Ventura Music Festival.
Ventura Music Festival Offices,
Ventura, California, November 2006
"Golden Note" sponsor, Affinity Bank is helping to bring together
this special blend of art and music for the upcoming 2007 season. Twelve (12)
chosen artists are at work bringing their art and life together in a unique,
seductive showing. Selected projects will be featured in a traveling exhibition
at distinguished venues throughout Ventura County beginning in December 2006.
All the art will be unveiled at a Ventura Music Festival press conference December
14, 2006.
Artists commissioned will present individual works in photography,
sculpture and painting. Personal interpretations of the
French era, when visual arts of the time captured emotional
moments and spawned a revolution in Impressionist painters
such as Monet, Renoir, Pissaro, Cezanne and Degas, will
attribute to the expression of such modern day works.
Three such artists are: Michele Chapin, who specializes
in stone sculpture, incorporates unusual tones, exotic
hues and colors and natural textures in her work. After
studying drawing, printmaking and art at the University
of California Santa Cruz, she relocated to Ventura in 1995
and founded Stoneworks Studio. She prefers to quarry her
own stones from the deserts of Southern California, often
selecting those with exotic colors that, when carved, cast
off an ethereal luminosity. Hilda Kilpatrick's work reflects
personal observations through oil paintings reflecting
her deep affection of landscapes, local scenes and other
places she says speak to her soul. Gerd Koch recently was
awarded the City of Ventura's Mayor's Art Award in recognition
for his artistic achievements and contributions to the
cultural community. He has dedicated his life to teaching
others the mastery of expression through art and continues
to mentor up-and-coming artists.
Additional artists chosen to express their vision through
inspired pieces for the 2007 Ventura Music Festival include:
Whitney Abbott, Paul Benavidez, Anna Rios Bermudez, Elana
Kundell, Dan LaVigne, Leslie McQuaide, Bob Moskowitz, Len
Poteshman and David Rivas.
A complete background with artists' accomplishments and
information is attached. Photos of Hilda Kilpatrick also
are attached.
