Blending Art and Life
The way Jordan and Sandra Laby see it – art and life are intertwined. Simple things, like the addition of a beautiful flower and vase to a restaurant table to seeking out great classical music at the Ventura Music Festival – are all art. Each of us is surrounded and influenced by art and music daily in our lives. It's a gift each of us is given. Local visionaries, the Laby's help keep that gift alive.

As upcoming recipients of the Mayor's Arts Awards in 2006, Sandra and Jordan Laby serve on the boards of most of the major art and music organizations in Ventura County.   Founders of the San Buenaventura Foundation for the Arts (SBFA) in 1999, the Laby's have dedicated much of their life to ensuring we have art, culture and music in our lives and in our communities.

The Laby's gifts are rich in more than finances; they have been instrumental in the start ups of key cultural venues like Rubicon Theatre Company, Ventura Music Festival, the bi-annual Arts Forum for City Council Candidates, Focus On The Masters and the New West Symphony.  The Laby's are active as board members and advisors of many other local and noted cultural events – the Ojai Music Festival, Ventura County Ballet, Ventura College Opera & Musical Theater, Camerata Pacifica and Cal State Channel Islands.   Their most current and exciting project is the Arts Village to be constructed in Ventura's Downtown Cultural District.

Organizations like the Ventura Music Festival stress the importance of the Laby's gifts to the local community.  "It's more than just the financial support, the Laby's vision and time they devote to us and other arts organizations is remarkable and invaluable.  To have them on our board is an asset in every way." says Cheryl Heitmann, Executive Director of the Ventura Music Festival. "It is clear, without their continued support this Festival would not have evolved into the signature event that it has."

Another unique facet of the Labys local contributions is the San Buenaventura Foundation for the Arts which brings various artists organizations together with marketing support and a website which features an upcoming event calendar.

The Ventura Music Festival is celebrating the gifts of the Laby’s at an upcoming fundraiser December 3rd 2006.  Tickets are available at VMF offices 805-648-3146.
