VMF youth programs for 2016-17 include:

  • A Children’s Concert involving Dr. Seuss’ Sneetches and St. Saens’ Carnival of the Animals was presented to 1,200 VUSD third-graders on October 11th, 2016. The sponsors: John Hammer/ Hammer-Hewson Associates, and Janet & Mark Goldenson.
  • VMF’s Music in the Schools program will serve upwards of 4,000 elementary school children in both school and after-school settings (including Casa Pacifica and Boys & Girls Clubs). Its sponsors: Aera Energy LLC and Harmony Music Center.
  • The Student Jazz Competition’s free public concert will be held on January 22nd, 2pm at The Pierpont. Five talented high school-age musicians will compete live for prize money and a spot in future VMF concerts. (Various individual sponsors plus The Pierpont Inn)
  • A Rising Stars Concert in the Spring–offered free of charge to the community–will feature outstanding young classical, choral and jazz musicians.
  • The VMF Young Artists Fund underwrites the performances of outstanding young musicians in diverse Festival and pre-Festival programs. Some may be young talent lauded locally for whom the appearance is a professional debut. Others may have emerged from important regional or national competitions. Already several have gone on to forge promising careers in concert halls that span the globe.
  • Free or heavily discounted tickets available for all 2016-17 Festival concerts.

VMF welcomes sponsors of its Young Artists Fund and other youth education and engagement programs. To donate – or for further information – please call Executive Director Susan Scott at 805-648-3146 or email her.
