Nuvi
Mehta, Artistic Director
Nuvi Mehta has an extraordinary gift for capturing the minds and hearts of his audiences. Likening him to a young Gary Cooper, the L.A. Times says, "His old-fashioned Hollywood charisma extends to an eloquent and theatrical way of speaking that is almost entirely lost today."
Named Artistic Director of the Ventura Music Festival Association in August of 2003, Mehta began to add his "stamp" to the Festival with wonderful on-stage interactions with artists, and by sharing his humor and knowledge with Festival audiences. He has also continued the tradition of pairing renowned artists with intimate venues, increasing visibility each year, expanding concert venues, community and arts partnerships, grants and outreach programs.
A regular guest of the San Diego Symphony, Mehta was recently named "Voice of the San Diego Symphony" where he will host a concert series introducing new patrons to the joys of classical music, as well as give talks before concerts and throughout the community.
Mehta is conductor for the International Russian Music Piano Competition. He has been Music Director of the Marquette and Nova Vista Symphonies, assistant and guest conductor of the San Diego Chamber Orchestra, and apprentice conductor with the Knoxville Symphony.
Mehta carries his passion for music into classrooms, where his children's music education programs have brought inspiration to thousands of elementary school children.
Born into a musical family, Mehta graduated with honors from Indiana University and the Julliard School. His teachers include Josef Gingold, Nathan Milstein, Szymon Goldberg, Otto Werner Mueller, and Charles Bruck.
